Kids’ Bedrooms Walls – Discover Rooomy’s Top 5 Colourful Wallpapers

Top 5 Wallpapers for kids’ bedrooms,

bringing big fun into their small space.

In kids’ bedrooms walls are a huge canvas for you to decorate, adorn and play with.  You can make statements, you can cocoon the whole space or section off areas of your kid’s room, creating a different vibe in each corner.  We won’t presume to know what you’re looking for and above all we want to encourage you to use more colour, this walls section we’re going to walk you through increasing stages of colour coverage.

1 – Colourful Feathers from Mini Moderns

Kicking off our Top 5 Colourful wallpapers for kids’ bedrooms is this colourful yet gentle design.  If you are keen to introduce some colour but nervous then these lovely feathers will bring the perfect light touch with calm tones but still colour coming into your kid’s space.

Mini Moderns created this in collaboration with artist, Matt Sewell. The design is based on Matt’s feather watercolours, which feature in the design for the end papers of his book ‘Our Songbirds’. The individual feathers each relate to the birds featured in the book.

The wallpaper design is part of their collection that takes inspiration from the nature reserve of Dungeness, on the South Kent coast.  The delicate watercolour effect makes this a wonderful soft design for nursery’s and children’s rooms, no garish primary colour here thank you.

2 – Dotty Multi Bright from Graham & Brown

Are you looking for a playful and colourful option for your kid’s bedroom walls then look no further than this dotty delight.  Big colour spots that you can’t help but smile at, there is something instantly fun and entertaining about big colourful silly circles plastered all over a wall.

It’s like an epic game of Twister waiting to be played.   You could even buy just one roll and keep cutting off large section to washi tape to the wall and the kids could create their own little emoji’s or monsters or aliens?  Lots of fun to be had here.

3 – Midsummer Bloom from Cole & Son

Ok building our braveness levels, we enter this big bloom design from Cole & Son, still with plenty of white space in the background so it won’t overwhelm the room, however if you are looking to go bold or go home they have two other colour way options that are stunning.  Lots of lovely gentle colours here, great detail and big blooms which make a great statement without being in your face.  This blousy print was found in the Cole & Son archive and re-painted by the Design Studio to create a rich and lavish trailing floral.

4 – Candy from Murals Wallpaper

Maybe you want bolder colours but are concerned about how intense that might, you don’t want anything too one dimensional either.  My 8 year-old loves this water-marble effect, in the art and craft world this is all the rage right now.  There is lots of colour and movement in this design but still plenty of white space so as not to overwhelm the space that they are growing in.

The unique, mesmerising design of this mural was hand-crafted by gently pressing a sheet of paper against a surface of water mixed with colourful paints to form a fun arrangement of swirls, speckles and splotches.

Plus, can you imagine their friends reaction when they come round and see this (eventually this will be happening)?  They will think you are the coolest parents ever for letting them have this up in their space, not that anyone says cool anymore right?  All you need to do is enter your wall measurements and the mural is created just for your space, no repeated patterns, one unique wall.

Bright Pastel Marbled Wallpaper for kids' bedrooms

5 – Frida from HappyWall

And finally, if you want to really go for it, colour everywhere, no white space, big bold shapes with rich tones, then the Frida is for you.  Inspired by the incredible lady herself what child’s imagination will not be ignited by this, I am instantly transported to somewhere like Alice in Wonderland, I’m now very small walking among the massive skyscraper plants, or even Avatar territory where magical/alien fauna and flora are ready to be discovered.  Where does this take you?  Also no repeat patterns here, you put in your wall measurements and the mural is created just for your specification.

The Best Colourful Wallpaper for Kids' Bedrooms

If any of these have caught your attention when thinking about kids’ bedrooms, you will notice that they are not styled with children in mind.  Please remember this when you are researching wallpaper options.  Think about your family style, think about what excites your child, no not Paw Patrol, that will pass all too quickly, and then you are stuck with Marshall and Chase staring at you.

Consider the mood you are trying to set and start there.  Don’t even put ‘kids’ in the search bar, it will open up a wonderful world of fun options for you.  Have fun and remember any queries on your kids’ rooms, send them over, here to help.

Top 5 Wallpapers for kids’ rooms brings strong character to their space, can you find something to suit their personality?

Top 5 Wallpapers for Kids’ Rooms is a commitment we know that, kids’ tastes change so it important to get it right first time round.  It has such a powerful impact on the whole aesthetic it is completely worth it.  Which is why it’s really important to look further than wallpaper designs that are created with kid’s in mind, what is beautiful and quirky for adults is playful and fun for children.  Don’t be fooled by seeing designs styled in adult spaces, imagine your kids face seeing their room covered in quilted elephants, abstract flowers, hot air balloons, guitars, plasters and more.

1 – Pleasure Gardens from Mini Moderns

Kicking off our Top 5 wallpapers for kid’s rooms is a colourful circus, adventure scape.  Following the musical craze that was “The Greatest Showman” children all over the world are still singing the songs and dressing up as bearded ladies, acrobats and ringmasters.  The circus has been bought back to life in their imaginations and children dream of flying through the air on the trapeze.  This incredible design, inspired by the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, will bring joy and entertainment to your child’s room and with the 4 different colour ways there is something for every age and taste. I mean what kid doesn’t want to dream of floating away on an adventure in a hot air balloon whilst drifting off to sleep?

2 – Allsorts from Miss Print

A lovely coral backdrop to the nature inspired, hand drawn designs of Miss Print.  These white wisps remind me of dandelions having been blown away by a little person who adores to see them go off dancing in the air, post probably making a really important wish.  The perfect imperfections bring this design to life attracting the eye all over the wall and cleverly avoiding the too common boredom of repetitive patterns.

They look like they are dancing across the wall, off their merry way somewhere exciting and new.  This design is available in 7 different colour ways, including yellow, blue and monochrome.

3 – Elephants from Galerie Wallcoverings

Elephants are often a favourite animal for children (and adults) I think the pure enormity of them captures our imagination, we are in awe of their size alone but we are endeared to them even more when we learn about their wonderful family dynamic, how they protect their young and nurture them, that although docile giants they know how to stand up for themselves and their family when the time comes.  Who wouldn’t be a fan of all that?  If your child is an elephant fan but you don’t want cartoon, Dumbo esque, cute phuphants all over their room, then this is the wallpaper for you.

4 – Band Aid by Ohh Fleur

Is there a music lover in your house?  They’re going to love this design from interior designer Fleur Ward.  After 20yrs in the interior design industry, Fleur was regularly frustrated by the lack of graphic wallpaper designs for the funkier house owner and for teenagers.  The wonderful end result of this frustration has been Fleur taking matters into her own hands and designing her own range of wonderful bright and strong graphical wallpaper designs.  There is something for each taste; music both modern and classic, skateboarding, nature, travel and photography/selfies.  Each designed has a few colour options and for this music number I love this green/blue…???

A made to measure mural that screams come play here!  With 9 different colours used in shapes that provide movement to the space, calming soft edges and all pitched in the perfect tone so that the wall does not become overwhelming and preventing a good nights’ sleep.  A great backdrop in a bedroom or playroom.

which will bring the sense of the outdoors indoors.

Bringing the outside into the inside creates a marvellous sense of calm or adventure for our kids’ it depends which way you go of course.  Here are out top 5 nature inspired wallpapers for kids’ bedrooms that we think you will love and we’re pretty sure there’s something for everyone. There’s bold and dramatic, cute blushes, rural moods and woodland fun.

Gable Wallpaper from Farrow & Ball featured by Rooomy Magazine for kids bedrooms

The Gable design from Farrow & Ball is playful, pastoral, and utterly charming. Depicting traditional village and farmyard scenes with clean, modern styling, its large-scale statement pattern is studded with little details that spark the imagination, taking on added character as you look.  If you are a fan of the English countryside, then this will be a wonderful daily reminder how fantastic our home landscape is.  There are also 8 other colour options to choose from which are worth checking out.

You want more nature but you don’t want it to be overly green and you would really like to warm things up with pink tones.  Fleur Harris has got your back as she designed this wonderful woodland wallpaper in collaboration with Jimmy Cricket, if you have seen our Interview with Little Liberty, you’ll know that Australia are ahead of the curve when it comes to children’s interiors, looking at this design we can see why.

Available in five other shades.  All their wallpaper is printed on non woven paper and is coated for both quality and practicality. The coating allows the wallpaper to be wiped over kept looking clean and lovely which is basically an essential with kids’.

When you think nature don’t just think woodlands and wild animals, you need to think about how much fun is to be had at the farm too. This rural inspired paper brings country living into their rooms with farmyard favourites such as cows and chickens, tractors and of course the farmer and his wife, all designed with a splash of humour.

These beautifully illustrated wallpapers are made and printed in England using traditional techniques on high quality sustainable forest paper and are available in four other shades.

This beautifully design and very fun print is inspired by a teddy bears picnic, an old fashioned and well-loved theme, recreated with a modern edge. In the UK badgers and foxes best represent our woodland heritage sometimes getting a bad press, but think of Roald Dahl’s, Fantastic Mr Fox and the grumpy but beloved Badger in The Wind and the Willows. With every gaze children lose themselves in a sense of curiosity, discovery and wonder. Let your little one tell their own bedtime tale through this wild and whimsical print.

Mysterious Spring Forrest mural by Mural Wallpaper featured by Rooomy magazine for kids' bedrooms

This misty green forest is a lush haven of beautiful green foliage and trees that fill the wilderness with life. The deep perspective delves down into the edge of the spring forest, giving you a continuous view through the landscape, adding an almost 3D effect to the mural that will bring your walls to life. This enchanted forest mural is a calming design, with subtle green tones and a natural feel, it’s perfect for a kids’ bedroom.  What adventures would your kids be going on with this mural in their room, mine would most certainly be imagining themselves as Ewoks on the forest moon of Endor.

There you have it, the top nature wallpapers for kids’ bedrooms, which one is your favourite, would your kid’s choose the same as you?  I love seeing what the girls think of different designs.

Happy decorating x

Mountain theme for a boys bedroom

A Mountain theme Bedroom for a Nature Loving Boy

Wilf (12) needed a new room to support his wellbeing

and to reflect his love of nature.

The initial brief was to create a room that Wilf (12) could grow into, with separated out zones for work, rest and play.  But it was very much designed around his specific needs which really impacted his wellbeing. Part of his condition affects the way he processes sensory information so he needed a space that felt calm and safe. So warm enveloping colours and a den-like safe place to retreat to when feeling overwhelmed was key.  We created him a mountain theme for a boys bedroom.

Mum is a Forest School teacher and so they are massively into nature, sustainability and renewable energy (they have an electric car for instance). This naturally had me thinking all things nature and organic products. He also had many collections of books and treasured items which either needed to be ordered and/or included in the design.

Baby Girl Nursery by PIA design featured by rooomy magazine

His Pinterest page (that I asked him to create) reflected images of nature, animals and the planets. The room images were all warm dark inky shades with diffused lighting. It was clear to me that even the hero items in this space literally had to be part of the landscape! I presented the concept image for his room and gained his positive feedback and constructive criticism to start developing the design.

As the main backdrop I chose a mountain scene wallpaper that wrapped two walls. Because of the way he deciphers some things we offered a few choices as we had to be careful that he couldn’t distinguish any scary faces/images in the patterned wallpaper!  I then matched the colours from this palette and wrapped the other two walls in dark blue and took the lighter blue over the ceiling.

My presentation is always to Mum and Dad first. Reason being; is so they can edit the options to suit their budget and also have a little control on how much they want to dial up or down the scheme. It always stays true to the scheme though and still leaves plenty of options for them to choose which provides a fun and collaborative experience.

I loved presenting this room to Wilf, he literally marked me out of 10 for each item, so it was that cut and dry on final edit!

“It makes me feel calm and safe. The colours are soothing and there’s no sharp angles, which makes it feel easy on my eyes, this helps me with aspects of my autism”

The bed was bespoke designed by me, allowing plenty of shelving for books on all sides. There’s even some secret compartments within the bed that even his brother doesn’t know about! It’s made out of Valchromat, essentially a wood fibre that’s individually impregnated with organic dye, so no need for paint, it’s therefore incredibly durable!

The desk and shelves are also bespoke design by me, and out of the same material.

The wardrobe storage fits neatly into the ceiling end of the room and leaves room for a bed-settee. Coffee table, pouffes (and cork notice-board) so he can chill out with friends.

All the lighting is dimmable and diffused to ensure no bare bulbs for glare. He loves the monkey bed-side light, which looks like it’s climbed it’s own monkey bars in the bed! The planet mobile is a stunning piece of art in itself which I’m sure he’ll keep for many years to come! He also has a projector which projects stars and planets on the ceiling to create different scenes for calming. The pendant replicates a fluffy cloud suspended against the mountain scene wallpaper!

It’s a space to work, play & socialise but most importantly to escape to when things get too much. I received the warmest of hugs when it was all completed. A tearful career high for me!

“It’s got everything, tons of cool stuff without being overwhelming.

There’s space for my books, collections, work and even a secret hiding space in my bed.

Marks out of 10, I’d give it a 10, there’s so many cool features!”

Over the last twelve years Justine (Barker Deign)has worked on a range of homes and businesses implementing her own signature style of laid-back interiors. Mixing up pieces from different eras and creating that uncontrived effortless look has become key to all her designs. Achieving that ‘thrown together’ look comes from years of savvy sourcing and constantly being on the hunt for new materials and local artisans who are willing to create bespoke pieces that won’t break the bank. Believing that the place in which you live or work should inspire, harmonise and ultimately make you happier, she strives to push the boundaries in every design and create spaces that are every bit as individual as her clients.

Rooomy’s Top 5 Walls for Sustainability,

for kid’s rooms and the family home

Looking for sustainable wallpaper is really easy now.  It is tough to find a company that don’t print on paper that comes from an FSC or PEFC certified sustainable forest, toxic paints are scarcely used the any decent wallpaper paste will be solvent free, so it’s just down to you to buy the good paste.

Aimee Wilder – Star Tiger

If you child loves big cats and is also a funky kid then this design it for them and better yet the colour options means there is something to suite the outlandish with the neon pink or yellow, then there’s the muted blue, grey and brown for the more introverted personas and finally a stylish monochrome which always allows for pop of colour through out the room is you wish.  If you were feeling adventurous you could mix and match!  With the calm yet stern stare of the tiger, coupled with a starred eye nod to bowie, this paper will last for years as it works for all ages.

Little Greene

Oh, this design has it all.  Stars, flowers, colour, a sense of rainbow style it’s great!  It is available in three other colour ways all with a nod to the 60’s but unless your kid is into serious vintage the heavy yellows, browns and red might not be the vibe they’re looking for.  However the peacock colour way is a joyful finish, bringing the outside in, the playful movement of the pattern and something to bring joy to the soul.

The paper used in Little Greene wallpapers comes from FSC or PEFC certificated sustainable forests; so for every tree used another four are planted. The pigments used to print them are completely non-toxic and their excellent wallpaper paste contains no solvent.

Arthouse Ltd – Hidden Jungle

All the detail, design, colours, layering and gorgeousness you could ask for, all wrapped up in this hidden jungle design.  A wonderful way to inspire children to care about the planet is to surround them with the parts of the world they don’t get to experience.  Build their passion to these animals in the wild one day and they will be on board with conservation and sustainability for sure.

Wonderfully versatile, you can hang this paper in a living room, bedroom, playroom or cloakroom – on all four walls for a dramatic look or on a feature wall. Suitable for most rooms except high moisture environments

Spoonflower – Katherine Quinn’s Whale Song

Whenever I research wallpaper I always pick a dark option as I think it is a stunning , striking and a brave way to decorate.  I am also conscious that as well as choosing FSC certified papers I’ve continued along the jungle theme in the hope of prompting children to think about the environment.  Of course, not all children are fans of land animals and some have a huge affinity with the wonders of our deep and vast oceans.  Kathrine Quinn has captured this beautifully in her design, I think we can tell she’s from New Zealand as she portrays many whales as well as sting rays, sea horses and plenty of fish.  A wonderful bold wall in any child’s bedroom whatever their age!

Rebel Walls – Mischievous Tigers

Enjoy the confident and superior movements of one of the world’s most graceful animals – the tiger.  If the previous jungle design was too colourful for you and maybe you’re looking for a more realistic foliage design still incorporating the animal aspect, then this design is the one for you. They are up to all sorts in this design, weaving in and out of the leaves bringing a playfulness to the feel which is just what you want for your kids room.

All of Rebel Walls wallpapers are printed on a non-woven paper reinforced with nylon fibres that create no VOC (Volatile organic compound) in room temperature. They print with all-natural non-toxic colour compounds that produce no VOC and our paste is made from modified potato starch that is also non-toxic.

Wallpaper that will take your child to the beach or into the ocean

Rooomy’s round up of the best wallpapers for your kid’s bedroom,

which will bring the sense of deep sea adventure or chilling on the beach.

Whales have always seemed amazing to us: the largest mammal on earth, their under-water speech, the sheer mass splashing down in the ocean to their calm, large glide through the water. With Finding Nemo, Pixar have helped take them to a new level where we now feel we are all able to speak whale which is fantastic.  Here at Rooomy we’re  great at speaking whale, some better than others of course.  This wonderful design manages to encapsulate their fun side.  The design is also available in grey.

You’re arty and you love the ocean and you don’t want a wallpaper that is too childish: this is for you. The flowing sea grass (sea weed just sounded to yucky) gives a lovely  to this design and then you have the pleasure of spotting the hiding seahorses, starfish and shells. Available in different colour ways to suit all your tonal needs. This would work great on a split wall, if you have a dado  rail. You can have lots of fun with this design, maybe use two or three different colour ways to bring all the colours of the sea to their space.

Under the sea does not need to mean The Little Mermaid or Finding Nemo. Maybe the pattern of wallpaper is just not for you. With this sea cave mural you can help your child go on an under the sea adventure of their own, available for any size wall. For your teenager this will bring a great sense of calm to their space when they are stressing over exams and all the other hurdles that go hand in hand with hormone surges.  Who knows it could inspire some scuba diving training?

So many wallpapers are not considered for kid’s rooms – too fancy, too grown up (whatever that mean). If you’re a fan of the beach and your kids love making endless sand angels, rock pooling and cart-wheeling along the beach then this design could be for you. Its warm rainbow tones are perfect for happy daydreaming of seaside adventures, but from the comfort of the carpet or cosy in bed. Their imagination, memories and creativity will all be firing away! Maybe you can join them for a lazy daydream? Cornetto, anyone?
